Mothagam recipe


INGREDIENTS:
  • Green grams (cooked) - 1 cup
  • Brown Sugar - 3/4 cup
  • Coconut - 1/4 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
  • All purpose flour or Maida - 1/2 cup
  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - 1 cup
PREPARATION:
  1. Soak 1/2 cup green grams overnight.
  2. Pour 1 cup water and cook it until it becomes soft. ( if you don't soak , use 2 cups water and pressure cook for 15 whistles). 
  3. Add brown sugar.
    Mix well and keep stirring in medium flame.
  4. Add coconut and stir until it gets thickened.
    Add cardamom powder and mix well. Let it cool.
  5. Make medium size balls. Keep aside.
  6. Take half cup all purpose flour or Maida. Add 1/2 cup water and make a batter without lumps. You can use a wire whisk. Add salt to taste.
  7. Pour oil in a pan and let it heated (When you pour a drop of batter in it, it will immediately come up).
  8. Then you know the oil is ready. Dip the balls in the batter.
    Drop gently in the oil and wait for a minute.
  9. Then turn it over and cook until they become slightly golden brown.
    Remove from oil
    and place on paper towel.

    P.S: To the remaining batter, add 3 tbsp of brown sugar. Mix well. Scoop in a spoon and pour in the oil. Turn it over and cook until golden brown. Remove from oil. You get fried pancakes
